GOVERNMENT BLOCKS 1,000+ SKYPE IDS LINKED TO CYBERCRIMINAL ACTIVITIES
Why in the news?
- The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) has blocked over 1,000 Skype IDs in collaboration with Microsoft.
- These IDs were used for blackmail, extortion, and impersonation of law enforcement officials.
- This measure was announced by the Union Home Ministry.
- A significant number of complaints were registered on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (NCRP).

- Initiative by the Ministry of Home Affairs to address cybercrime comprehensively.
- Enhances coordination among Law Enforcement Agencies and stakeholders.
- Approved on 05th October 2018; launched on 10th January 2020.
- Located in New Delhi.
- Coordinates Mutual Legal Assistance Treaties (MLAT) for cybercrime.
- Prevents misuse of cyberspace by extremists and terrorists.
