“GOVERNMENT APPROVES 2 CRORE MORE PMAY-G HOUSES WITH INCREASED ASSISTANCE”
Why in the news?
- The newly formed government plans to approve 2 crore additional houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) with a 50% increase in assistance per beneficiary.
- This approval is part of the government’s first 100-day agenda, aiming to extend the existing scheme which has already sanctioned 2.95 crore houses since 2016, with 2.61 crore completed so far.

About Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin (PMAY-G):
- PMAY-G launched on 1st April 2016 to address these gaps and achieve “Housing for All” by 2022.
- House Size: Minimum increased to 25 sq.mt from 20 sq.mt, including a hygienic cooking space.
- Toilet Construction: Assistance through SBM-G, MGNREGS, or other funds.
- Convergence for Amenities: Efforts to include piped water, electricity, LPG, etc., via various government programs.
- Beneficiary Selection: Based on housing deprivation parameters from SECC 2011, verified by Gram Sabhas.

● Launch: 25th June 2015 ● Goal: Provide housing for all in urban areas by 2022 ● Implemented by: Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs. ● Coverage: Entire urban area, including:Statutory TownsNotified Planning AreasDevelopment Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, etc. ● Basic Amenities: All houses include:Toilet, Water supply, Electricity, Kitchen. ● Women Empowerment: Ownership of houses in the name of female members or jointly. |
