GERMANY’S PROPOSAL
Why in the News?
- Germany has submitted an inter-governmental proposal to sell six advanced conventional submarines to India for the Navy’s P-75I procurement program.
- A senior German delegation visited New Delhi recently to advance discussions on the deal.

About Project P-75I :
- Under this project the Indian Navy plans to acquire six advanced conventional submarines through the Strategic Partnership (SP) model.
- These submarines will be diesel-electric and will feature advanced Air-independent propulsion (AIP) systems.
- Project 75I mandates an Indian bidder to partner with a foreign collaborator to construct six conventional submarines equipped with AIP systems.
- The level of indigenisation is set to increase progressively from a minimum of 45% in the first submarine to 60% in the sixth.
