GEMCOVAC –OM Vaccine : Approved

News: The Drug Controller General of India approved GEMCOVAC-OM, India’s first locally produced mRNA vaccine, for use in emergency situations.

Gennova Biopharmaceuticals Ltd. created the GEMCOVAC-OM vaccine with the help of the Mission COVID Suraksha programme, which is run by the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC).

It is a thermostable vaccine, making distribution across India simple. It does not require the ultra-cold chain infrastructure needed for other authorised mRNA-based vaccines.

Using a system of needle-free injection devices, it is administered intradermally.

Participants received it intradermally as a booster, and the immune responses were noticeably enhanced.

The clinical outcome shows that variant-specific vaccinations are required to elicit the desired immune response.

A single-stranded RNA molecule that complements DNA is messenger RNA (mRNA), which is present in the mRNA vaccination.

Pre-mRNA is produced in the nucleus when DNA is translated by RNA polymerase.
