Gangotri National Park : Transfer Of Land To The Army And Indo-Tibetan Border Police
News: The Army and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) will receive about 50 hectares of land from Gangotri National Park (GNP) in Uttarakhand so they may build new bunkers and border outposts close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
In 1989, the Gangotri National Park was created in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.
It comprises Gaumukh at Gangotri Glacier, the river Ganga’s source, and is situated in the upper watershed of the Bhagirathi River.
Between Govind National Park and Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, the park acts as a connector.
The Sino-Indian Border spans 3,488 km from the Karakoram Pass in Ladakh to Jachep La in Arunachal Pradesh, and is patrolled by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), which was established in 1962 and has its headquarters in New Delhi.
With its officers and staff having received mountaineering and skiing training, the ITBP is renowned for its expertise in mountain operations.
The merging of the Assam Rifles with the ITBP was recommended in November 2019 by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
