First State To Use Robotics Technology For Cleaning Manhole : Kerala

News: By putting the robotic scavenger Bandicoot into service in the temple town of Guruvayur, Kerala became the first state in the nation to deploy robotics technology for cleaning all of its commissioned manholes.

 

The Bandicoot Robot, created by Kerala-based Genrobotics, is the first robotic scavenger in the world.

The world’s first robotic scavenger, Bandicoot, was created by Technopark-based Genrobotics in an effort to do away with manual scavenging and give manhole cleaners a break.

It most recently won the “Kerala Pride” prize.

 

As part of the state government’s 100-day action plan, Kerala Water Authority (KWA) launched Bandicoot as part of the Guruvayur Sewerage Project in the Thrissur district. Water Resources Minister Roshi Augustine.

In India, manual scavenging is prohibited by the Prevention of Employment as Manual Scavengers and their Rehabilitation Act (PEMSR), 2013, which was passed.

MoSJ&E and MoHUA have launched a programme called National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE).
