Exercise La Perouse 2023
News: On March 13 and 14, 2023, a multinational exercise called La Perouse was held in the Indian Ocean region.
The Indian Ocean Region is the site of the third iteration of the multilateral maritime exercise.
In this version, the Royal Australian Navy, French Navy, Indian Navy, Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, Royal Navy, and United States Navy will all be represented with troops, ships, and integral helicopters.
The French Navy leads the biennial exercise La Perouse, which aims to improve maritime domain awareness and maritime coordination among the participating warships in the Indo-Pacific region.
The two-day exercise gives like-minded navies the chance to forge stronger relationships in terms of planning, coordination, and information exchange for efficient maritime operations.
Complex and sophisticated naval operations, such as surface warfare, anti-air warfare, air defence drills, cross-deck landings, and tactical manoeuvres, will be performed throughout the exercise.
This version of the drill will feature participation from the fleet tanker INS Jyoti and the indigenously built guided missile frigate INS Sahyadri.
The Indian Navy’s participation in the exercise demonstrates the allied navies’ high levels of cooperation, coordination, and interoperability as well as their dedication to a rules-based international order in the Indo-Pacific area.
