DRDO’S COUNTER-DRONE SYSTEM ADVANCEMENTS

Why in the News?

  • DRDO has completed the development of its counter-drone system and demonstrated it to armed services and internal security agencies, with orders already in place.
  • Three services have collectively ordered 23 units from BEL (Bharat Electronics Limited) for this technology.

India’s Indigenous Drones:

·   Rustom: Developed for reconnaissance and surveillance.

·   Netra: Designed for surveillance and disaster management.

·   Tapas: Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) UAV for intelligence and reconnaissance.

·   Nirbhay: Long-range cruise missile, which can also be considered a drone.

·   Lakshya: Used for target practice by the Indian Armed Forces.
