DRDO Achieves Milestone with VSHORADS Flight Tests
Why in the news?
The Defence Research and Development Organisation successfully tested the 4th Generation VSHORADS, enhancing India’s air defense capabilities and showcasing indigenous technological advancements against aerial threats.
About Successful Flight Tests of VSHORADS:
- The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducted three flight tests of the 4th Generation Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
- Tests were carried out against a high-speed target, demonstrating critical parameters such as maximum range and altitude interception.
- Development trials confirmed the weapon system’s hit-to-kill capability in various target engagement scenarios, including approaching, receding, and crossing modes.
Indigenous Development
- VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System developed indigenously by Research Centre Imarat (RCI) in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and Development cum Production Partners.
- The three Armed Services have been involved from the project’s inception and participated in the developmental trials, ensuring comprehensive evaluation.
