About Doklam and Doklam Issue:

  • Doklam, or Donglang, spans less than 100 sq km , is a trijunction area between India, Bhutan, and China.
  • Surrounded by Tibet’s Chumbi Valley, Bhutan’s Ha Valley, and Sikkim.
  • Strategically near the Siliguri Corridor, a crucial link between mainland India and the northeast.
  • Also known as Chicken’s Neck, the corridor is a vulnerable point for India.
  • The issue arose when in 2017 a standoff emerged between Indian and Chinese forces over Chinese construction in Doklam.
  • Despite being recognized as Bhutanese by India and Bhutan, tensions escalated, leading to increased military presence and verbal sparring.
