Highlights of the Agnipath scheme :

  • Announcement: June 2022, Indian government introduced Agnipath scheme for recruitment in Defence Services.
  • Recruits: Soldiers, sailors, airmen termed “Agniveer”, for non-officer ranks.
  • Service Duration: 4 years; 25% selected for permanent service, requiring additional 15 years.
  • Mix Policy: Long-term goal: 50:50 mix of Agniveers and regular soldiers.
  • Objective: Encourage youth to serve for 4 years, with 6 months training.
  • Benefits: Attractive monthly package, Risk and Hardship allowances.
  • Seva Nidhi: One-time package after 4 years, exempt from Income Tax.
