About the Development of Agalega:
- Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated an airstrip and St James jetty on North Agalega Island.
- Agalega, with an area of 26 sq km and about 300 inhabitants, lies approximately 650 nautical miles north of Mauritius.
- Development aligns with Mauritius’ socio-economic and national security interests and India’s maritime vision.
What is Agalega Project?
● Agalega Project: Includes jetty construction, runway extension, and airport terminal building on Agalega Island. ● Funded by India: USD 87 million investment. ● Adds new airport, port, logistics, communication facilities, and other related infrastructure. ● Agalega Island: Located 1,122 km north of Mauritius in the southwestern Indian Ocean. ● Land area: 27 square miles (70 square km). |
