Defence Ministry Grants Miniratna Category-I Status to Yantra India Limited
Yantra India Limited (YIL), a defence public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has been granted Miniratna Category-I status. YIL was formed in 2021 after the corporatisation of the Ordnance Factory Board and is engaged in the manufacturing of arms, ammunition, explosives, and defence systems for the Indian Armed Forces.
The Miniratna-I status provides YIL greater financial and operational autonomy, allowing it to invest up to ₹500 crore or its net worth (whichever is lower) without prior government approval. This recognition reflects the company’s strong financial performance, improved efficiency, and strategic importance in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem. The move supports Atmanirbhar Bharat, boosts indigenous defence production, and enhances India’s defence preparedness and export potential—making it relevant for Defence, PSU reforms, and industrial policy .
