Advait Vedanta

  • Advaita Vedanta is a prominent school of Hindu philosophy, founded by the ancient Indian sage Adi Shankaracharya.
  • It is rooted in the Upanishads, the foundational texts of Hinduism, and centers on the concept of non-dualism (Advaita), which asserts that the ultimate reality (Brahman) is singular, unchanging, and devoid of any distinctions.
  • In Advaita Vedanta, the phenomenal world is seen as an illusion (maya) that conceals the true nature of Brahman.
  • The individual soul (Atman) is believed to be identical to Brahman, and the goal of human life is to realize this identity through self-inquiry and spiritual practice, transcending the cycle of birth and death (samsara).
  • Key principles include the rejection of dualities, such as good and evil, and the belief that rituals and religious practices are means to an end but not the ultimate goal.
  • Advaita Vedanta has had a profound influence on Hindu thought and continues to be a source of inspiration for spiritual seekers worldwide.
