“CONCERNS RAISED OVER DELAY IN PUBLISHING CONSUMER PRICE INDEX DATA”
Why in the news?
- The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) is questioning the delay in publishing the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW) for February and March.
- CITU is urging the Labour Ministry to release the AICPI-IW data promptly, as it’s crucial for regulating wages and policy formulations.

About All India Consumer Price Index:
- Measures price changes from the perspective of retail buyers.
- Released by the National Statistical Office (NSO).
- Calculates price differences of commodities and services like food, medical care, education, electronics, etc., bought by Indian consumers.
- Base year for CPI is 2012.
- New series of CPI for Industrial Worker (CPI-IW) introduced with base year 2016.
