About Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)

  • Launch Date: PMGSY Phase I was initiated on December 25, 2000, as a fully centrally sponsored scheme.
  • Objective: The scheme aims to connect unconnected habitations with all-weather roads, enhancing socio-economic conditions in rural areas.
  • Eligibility: It targets habitations with specific populations (500+ in plain areas, 250+ in special regions) located at least 500 meters from an all-weather road.
  • Core Network: This essential road network ensures basic access to vital services for eligible habitations.
  • Funding Pattern: The Union Government provides 90% funding for North-Eastern and Himalayan states, and 60% for others.

  • PMGSY Phase I: Targeted 1,35,436 habitations and 3.68 lakh km for road connectivity.
