CENTRAL PRISON VISIT, BANGALORE ON 15TH June, 2023

Universal School of Law, Bangalore, in collaboration with Central Jail, Bangalore, organized one day educational jail visit to the Central Jail in Bangalore for the first- and second-year law students on 15th June, 2023. Jail Superintendent, facilitated this educational ‘Jail tour program’.

During the visit, the students were taken to the Jail Dispensary where they got to understand the procedure followed by authorities when it comes to the medical treatment given to Prisoners. The students were next taken to the workshops and different small manufacturing industries set up within the jail premises, such as, Bakery, the Handloom industry (especially carpet and blanket weaving), Fabrication industry, offset printing press (which received orders from outside as well), and carpentry etc. operated by the Prison authorities, where Prisoners work as laborers, which are there for the proper reformation, economic support and rehabilitation of the Prisoners.

This visit was totally insightful as it made students aware about the jail administration and the conditions prevailing there. It also broke students’ stereotypes that students had formed of the prison on the basis of Bollywood movies. It also exposed students to the humane side of the prisoners as opposed to their pre conceived notions of them. We could actually see the reformation that the jail brought in those prisoners
