Why in the news?

CBSE mandates mother tongue-focused education, aligning with National Education Policy, to preserve linguistic diversity and promote multilingualism in schools.

About the Instruction to Schools:

  • CBSE directs all schools to utilise educational material focusing on learning in the mother tongue.
  • Circular aligns with National Education Policy 2020 and National Curriculum Framework 2022.
  • Aims to promote multilingual education and preserve linguistic diversity.
  • Collaboration between National Council for Educational Research and Training and Indian Institute of Languages.
  • Resulted in the creation of 52 primers tailored to various mother tongues and local languages spoken across India.
  • Languages include Bhutia, Bodo, Garo, Khandeshi, Kinnauri, Kuki, Manipuri, Nepali, Sherpa, and Tulu.
