About Agniveers:

  • Soldiers, airmen, and sailors in the Indian Armed Forces.
  • Recruited under the Agnipath Scheme for a four-year period.
  • “Agniveer” translates to “Fire-Warriors,” a new military rank.
About Agnipath Scheme:

  • Launched in 2022 for recruitment to the armed forces.
  • Targets individuals below officer rank for four-year contracts.
  • Option to retain top-performing Agniveers.

Eligibility

  • Age: 17.5 to 21 years; includes girls.
  • No reservation for women.
  • Recruitment twice a year through rallies.

Pay & Benefits

  • Death: Rs 1 crore and full pay for unserved period.
  • Disability: Up to Rs 44 lakh compensation.
  • No pension for most; 25% absorbed Agniveers get pension excluding the initial four years.

Current Status

  • Army: Two batches of 40,000 completed training; third batch of 20,000 began in Nov 2023.
  • Navy: Three batches (7,385) completed training.
  • IAF: 4,955 completed training.

What is the Seva Nidhi Package?

  • One-time severance package for Agniveers.
  • Given after completing four years of service.
  • Part of the Agnipath scheme for young recruits in the Indian Armed Forces.
