Seminar on “Bhungroo”, a water harvesting technique that uses an injection module to store excess rainwater underground
The seminar began with an inauguration by the lighting of the lamp. The chief guest of the day, Shri Ravindra Bhat, executive editor of Prajavani, writer and a nature lover addressed the gathering. In his speech, he brought the different facets of water conversation in our society. From historical times, societies had adopted methods of water conservation at regional levels. These simpler techniques are lost in the present day. It is upon us to learn lessons and guide future generations in a different direction.
Mr. Biplab Ketan Paul, a globally acclaimed personality who has worked with various countries of Asia and Africa was the next speaker. Considering the audience were young students pursuing BA, Bcom and BA LLB, the speaker conveyed his message through an activity. With the intent on broadening the horizons of the aspiring civil servants, the speaker used water as a tool to channelize the thoughts of students. Mr. Paul wanted the students to visualize what are the various stages involved from identifying the root of an issue to formulating and executing a policy. This he achieved through a participatory session with the students.
The next speaker was Dr. Ashok D Hanjagi, Head of the Department of Geography, Bangalore University, Jnanabharathi Campus. A researcher and scholar having published several papers, Dr. Ashok’s speech provided the students with a way forward. With data, the speaker pointed out that as a society we are headed towards grave dangers of climate change. It is our duty to turn towards an environment-centered approach to life and leave behind the bounties of nature for future generations.
The final speaker was Shri R Upendra Shetty, Chairman of Universal Group of Institutions. Being an educationist, with a short story he grasped the attention of the students to encourage them to widen their minds and not limit themselves. Under the aegis of the institution, he motivated the students to participate within the campus to conserve our nature.
This was followed by the felicitation of the guests. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks.
