About the Assam Muslim Marriage and Divorce Registration Act, 1935:
- The Act facilitated voluntary registration of Muslim marriages and divorces.
- It empowered the government to issue licenses for registration upon application.
- On February 23, the Assam cabinet decided to repeal the Assam Muslim Marriages and Divorces Registration Act.
- The Act permitted marriage registration even if individuals hadn’t attained the legal ages of 18 and 21.
- This move aligns with legal requirements and aims to prevent underage marriages.
What is Uniform Civil Code (UCC) ?
