Highlighting the Reasons for Delisting:
- Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) plans to remove 18 monuments from the list of protected sites due to being ‘untraceable’ and deemed lacking national importance.
- Invocation of Section 35 of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1958, enables ASI to delist monuments not considered of national significance.
- Delisting allows regular construction and urbanisation activities around these monuments as ASI won’t be responsible for their protection.
