Why in the news?
Indian Army establishes Apache helicopter unit in Jodhpur, marking its second attack helicopter fleet after indigenous Light Combat Helicopter.
About the Deployment and Procurement :
- The 451 Aviation Squadron is formally established at Jodhpur; first batch of three Apaches expected in May, followed by three more in July.
- India signed a deal with Boeing for six additional Apaches, costing around $800 million, with pilots and technicians trained in the U.S.
