APEDA TO PROMOTE ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE EXPORTS AS A PART OF ‘MAKE IN INDIA’ INITIATIVE

Why in the News?

The Agricultural and Processed Food Export Development Authority (APEDA) is set to boost the export of Indian alcoholic beverages as part of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, aiming to surpass $1 billion in export revenues. With India currently ranked 40th in global alcoholic beverage exports, the rising international demand for Indian spirits presents significant growth potential.

Key Points:

A notable milestone in this initiative is the upcoming launch of Godawan Single Malt Whisky in the United Kingdom. Produced in Rajasthan, Godawan is an artisanal whisky crafted using locally sourced six-row barley from the Alwar region, supporting local farmers and enhancing agricultural incomes. The first batch was flagged off to the UK by key figures, including Shri Rajesh Agrawal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, and Ms. Debra Crew, Chief Executive of Diageo Plc. Godawan’s participation in the International Food and Drinks Event (IFE) in London earlier this year laid the groundwork for its UK debut, marking a significant step in promoting Indian spirits globally.
