APAAR | One Nation One Student ID Card programme

  • The Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) is a transformative initiative that was implemented in accordance with the National Education Policy and the National Credit and Qualifications Framework.

About APAAR

  • It aims to provide a unified and accessible academic experience for all students in India by assigning each student a unique and permanent 12-digit ID and consolidating their academic achievements in one place;
  • APAAR ID would facilitate easy tracking of academic progress from pre-primary education to higher education for students, schools, and governments.
  • Additionally, APAAR would act as a gateway to Digilocker, a digital repository for student accomplishments and important papers like report cards and exam results.

National Education Policy (NEP)

  • India’s first education policy of the twenty-first century is the NEP 2020, which takes the place of the National Policy on Education (NPE) 1986;
  • This new policy was outlined by a committee appointed by the Ministry of Education and led by K. Kasturirangan;
  • In order to better meet the needs of the twenty-first century, the National Education Policy 2020 suggests a number of reforms in higher education and the classroom, including technical education;
  • NEP 2020’s five guiding principles are accessibility, equity, affordability, quality, and accountability and this policy is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda;
  • Objective of NEP: By enhancing the holistic, adaptable, and multidisciplinary nature of both school and college education and focusing on highlighting each student’s individual talents, it seeks to turn India into a thriving knowledge society and worldwide knowledge superpower.
