About INS Rajali :

  • Location and Operations:
  • INS Rajali is an Indian naval air station near Arakkonam, Tamil Nadu.
  • Operates under the Southern Naval Command with the longest military runway in Asia.
  • Constructed in 1942 for Allied use during World War II.
  • Transferred to the Indian Navy in the 1980s, commissioned as INS Rajali on March 11, 1992.
  • Significance and Facilities:
  • Home to INAS 312 anti-submarine warfare squadron and Helicopter Training School.; facilities for training rotary-wing pilots for Navy and Coast Guard.

About Indian Navy’s long-range surveillance aircraft squadrons:

INAS 316:

●     Named ‘Condors’ after the large flying bird.

●     Commissioned to operate four new P-8I aircraft in the Indian Ocean Region.

●     Tasked with ‘Deter, Detect, and Destroy’ threats.

Other Surveillance Squadrons:

●     INSAS 312 (‘Albatross’) based at INS Rajali, Arakkonam.
