All-Party meeting ahead of Parliament’s winter session
- News: In order to guarantee the smooth operation of both Houses, the government has called an all-party meeting in New Delhi today, ahead of the start of the Winter Session of Parliament on Monday.
- Prahlad Joshi, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs is scheduled to meet with the floor leaders of the two houses of parliament.
- Parliament will convene for its Winter Session on December 4 and run through December 22 for 19 days, there will be 15 sittings in total.
- The Ethics Committee report on cash for query charges against TMC MP Mahua Moitra will be presented to the Lok Sabha on the first day of the session.
- The Standing Committee report on the ‘Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023′, the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, and the Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023’ will be presented in Parliament under the agenda.
Ethics committee:
● About the Parliamentary Ethics Committee: Originating from a resolution passed at the Presiding Officers Conference in October 1996 in New Delhi, the Ethics Committee was established within Parliament. ● The parliament has an ethics committee for each house. ● Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee: ○ It was initially established in 2000. ○ Composition: Elected by the Speaker, it has no more than fifteen members; ○ Term: They serve a term of not more than a year in office. Rajya Sabha’s Ethics Committee: ○ It came into being in 1997; ○ It is made up of ten members nominated by the Rajya Sabha Chairman; ○ Term: They will serve a term of not more than a year in office. |
