Government stand on AI

  • Soon, the government will be launching the AI Mission, which intends to determine the computing capabilities of AI, the government has initiated a National Program on Artificial Intelligence.

GPAI

●  History od GPAI: The GPAI was founded in June 2020 with 15 members, and as of right now, it has 28 members in addition to the European Union.

●  GPAI is a multi-stakeholder initiative that supports innovative research and applied activities on AI-related priorities with the goal of bridging the gap between theory and practice in artificial intelligence.

●  Leading global innovators in artificial intelligence, such as those from Microsoft, Intel, Reliance Jio, Google, Meta, and Paytm, will take part in various events and India will serve as the GPAI’s lead chair in 2024.

●  The summit offered a chance to learn about global perspectives on artificial intelligence and what India has to offer in this area.

●  The three-day summit will feature a number of sessions covering a wide range of subjects, including data governance, education and skill development, artificial intelligence and global health, and more.

●  The Research Symposium, the AI Game changers Award, and the India AI Expo are some of the summit’s additional attractions.

BLETCHLEY DECLARATION on 03/11/2023

●  The AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park convened nations, computer scientists, and tech leaders to discuss AI challenges and opportunities.

●  The summit was hoisted by the United Kingdom.

●  India played a crucial role at the summit alongside countries like the US, UK, and China, shaping global AI governance.

 About the declaration:

●  Global Agreement: The declaration seeks a shared understanding of risks and opportunities related to “frontier AI.”

●  Partners: 28 major countries, including India, the US, China, and the EU, signed a groundbreaking agreement.

●  Frontier AI Defined: Frontier AI” refers to immensely proficient general-purpose AI models capable of executing a diverse range of tasks, matching or surpassing the capabilities of current state-of-the-art models. Presently, this category predominantly encompasses large language models (LLMs) like those powering ChatGPT, Claude, and Bard.

●  India’s PM advocated for a global framework on “ethical” AI tools, signaling a move towards proactive regulation.

●  Global Opinion on AI Governance: EU proposed a comprehensive AI Act, the UK adopts a “light-touch” approach, and the US focuses on safety and ethics.
