Advancing Electric Mobility: FAME-II and PM e-DRIVE
Why in the news?
The FAME-II scheme supported over 16.14 lakh electric vehicles, and the government allocated ₹10,900 crores for PM e-DRIVE, a two-year initiative promoting innovation in electric vehicle manufacturing and reducing pollution across India.
FAME-II Achievements:
- Over 14 lakh electric vehicles have received support under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (FAME-II) scheme until the end of last year.
- The scheme covers both urban and rural areas, promoting electric mobility and pollution reduction.
- It has been implemented nationwide to encourage a shift toward environmentally sustainable transport solutions.
Government Commitment to Electric Mobility:
- The Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, provided updates in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
- FAME-II continues to play a critical role in the development of a cleaner transport ecosystem.
PM e-DRIVE Initiative:
- The government has allocated ₹10,900 crores under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM e-DRIVE).
- This scheme will be implemented over two years, aimed at strengthening India’s EV manufacturing and innovation ecosystem.
- These initiatives reflect India’s commitment to achieving its clean energy and sustainability goals while enhancing technological advancements in electric mobility.
