A review of progress in Swacch Bharat Mission has been recently made by the Minister of state for Jal Shakti. What are the major findings of this review? Suggest few practical ways on how to make a greater progress in this direction.

Introduction:

Swacch Bharat Mission was launched in 2014 by the Narendra Modi-led NDA government in 2014. The central idea behind the scheme was to improve the cleanliness in the country. Its implementation was divided into stages to have a better review and progress monitoring.

Body:

The different phases:

1) Phase-1: It concluded in Oct-2019. India was declared as open defecation free.

2) Phase-2: This phase will run till 2024-25.

The major initiatives are:

The implementation of SBM-Grameen in phase 2 will see:

1) over 50 lakh Individual Household Latrines.

2) 1 lakh community toilet

3) Plastic waste management units

4) Gobardhan projects in 386 districts

Conclusion:

This is a very ambitious scheme of the NDA government and a lot of progress has already been made. Creation of awareness should be continued. Unable to timely reviewing and hiding the data or malpractices in projection can hamper the scheme. So they should be avoided at all costs. Thus we can have a cleaner India which is a boon for us in terms of both public health and tourism enhancement.
