The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the International Day of Forests in 2012 to celebrate and create awareness of the importance of all types of forest.

Forest sustainable management and their use of resources are key to combating climate change, and to contributing to the prosperity and well-being of current and future generations. Forests also play a crucial role in poverty elevation and in the achievement of sustainable development goals. Despite all of these priceless ecological, economic, social and health benefits, global deforestation continues at an alarming rate.

“The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 21 March as the “International Day of Forests” in 2012 to celebrate and create awareness of the importance of all types of forest.
Countries are encouraged to undertake local, national and international efforts to organize activities involving forests and trees, such as tree planting campaigns.”

The theme of the International Day of Forests for 2021 is ”Forest restoration; a path to recovery and well-being.”‘ the restoration and sustainable management of forests help address the climate change and biodiversity crises. It also produces goods and services for sustainable development, fostering and economic activity that creates jobs and improves lives.

With the same, the Universal School of Administration has decided to plant trees on National and International Day of Forests. The Chairman – Sri. Upendra Shetty and the Administrator – Sri. Santhosh Shetty had decided to give this opportunity to the Youth Red cross-wing members and guided them in detail. The programme was led by the coordinator Miss. Arpitha P further took the help from Mr. Ramakrishna in searching of the place and steps to plant the trees. Later Miss. Arpitha went to the Nursery to get 15 curry leaves plants by seeing this the management also donated 19 Moringa plants and a few ladies finger plants to the Youth Red cross-wing.

The plantation of trees and watering the trees was started by 8.00 AM and finished by 9.15.AM on 21* March 2021. Miss.Arpitha showed the red cross members how to dig the hole, plant trees, how to put manure, fertilizers, and watering the plants. Later all the members took each plant and planted it as shown places. There were total of 17 members who took part along with the coordinator. The Volunteers are Nikhil, Chandan, Tanushree, Pearl R Rebello, Sumasri, Harshini, T. Durgaprasad, Ibrahim, Asif, Shrushti, Ankita, Panchami, Dharani, Akshitha,
Srilakshmi, Ruksar Banu, Kurinji.

At last, the function was ended by saying “ENVIRONMENT IS PRECIOUS TO LIFE, SECURE IT FOR LIFE”.
