Why in the news?

The Ministry of Panchayati Raj will host the National Panchayat Awards 2024 to honor Panchayats excelling in rural development across various sectors, aligned with SDGs.

Event Details:

  • The National Panchayat Awards Conferment Ceremony 2024 will be held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, organized by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj (MoPR).
  • The awards aim to recognize the exemplary efforts of Panchayats in advancing rural development across various sectors, including poverty alleviation, health, water conservation, and women empowerment.

Award Themes and Categories:

  • The awards align with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and are divided into nine key themes:
    • Poverty-Free and Enhanced Livelihoods
    • Healthy Panchayat
    • Child-Friendly Panchayat
    • Water-Sufficient Panchayat
    • Clean and Green Panchayat
    • Self-Sufficient Infrastructure
    • Socially Just Panchayat
    • Good Governance
    • Women-Friendly Panchayat
  • The Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (DDUPSVP) awards the top three Panchayats in each theme for outstanding performance.
  • The Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar recognizes the best-performing Gram, Block, and District Panchayats across all themes.

Special Awards:

  • Gram Urja Swaraj Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar and Carbon Neutral Vishesh Panchayat Puraskar honor Panchayats excelling in renewable energy adoption.
  • The Panchayat Kshamta Nirmaan Sarvottam Sansthan Puraskar is awarded to institutions that assist Panchayats in achieving local sustainable development goals (LSDGs).
