About Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA)
Establishment and Role:
- Founded in 2008, CoBRA is a specialized unit of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
- Known as “jungle warriors,” they are trained in guerrilla tactics and jungle warfare.
Primary Mission:
- Originally created to counter Naxalite groups, they address insurgent activities using asymmetrical warfare.
- CoBRA personnel are selected from the CRPF and undergo rigorous commando and jungle warfare training.
Deployment:
- CoBRA has 10 units established between 2008 and 2011.
- Most units operate in Maoist-affected areas, with some in the northeastern states for counter-insurgency operations.
