HYDERABAD CEASES TO BE SHARED CAPITAL FROM 2ND JUNE ; BIFURCATION ISSUES STILL PENDING

Why in the news?

Hyderabad will cease to be a common capital, becoming the sole capital of Telangana, while infrastructure and buildings in prime areas will be vacated by Andhra Pradesh, except for certain institutions under Schedules IX and X.

About the News :

  • Hyderabad’s Status Change: Hyderabad will cease to be a common capital from 2nd June , becoming the capital of Telangana alone.
  • Infrastructure Transition: Telangana will take over several buildings in prime locations previously possessed by Andhra Pradesh since state formation.
  • Andhra Pradesh’s Retained Buildings: Andhra Pradesh has agreed to vacate all buildings except those housing Schedule IX and X institutions, such as Film Development Corporation and Civil Supplies Corporation.
  • Pending Requests: Andhra Pradesh requested to retain three buildings—Hermitage Complex, CBCID headquarters, and Lake View Guest House—until unresolved issues are settled, pending Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s consent.
  • Vacated Buildings: Over 55 buildings will be vacated, providing space for Telangana’s government offices currently in rented premises.
  • Political Tensions: Former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao rejected the Congress government’s invitation to Telangana’s decennial celebrations, demanding an apology for youth deaths during the Telangana movement and accusing Congress of moral bankruptcy in an open letter to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy.
