27 KILLED IN BLAZE AT RAJKOT CHILDREN’S GAME ZONE, MORE FEARED TRAPPED UNDER DEBRIS

Why in the news?

A fire erupted at the TRP Game Zone in Rajkot, claiming at least 27 lives. The structure, lacking fire extinguishers and emergency exits, quickly became engulfed in flames, trapping individuals inside.

About the Tragedy : 

  • Government Response: The state government initiated a probe to determine if the game zone had obtained required licenses. A special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the incident.
  • Lack of Safety Measures: Initial reports suggest the venue lacked necessary safety certifications from the fire department. The absence of proper fire protection infrastructure and overcrowding exacerbated the situation.
  • Immediate Actions: Gujarat’s DGP ordered inspections of all play zones in the state and closure of those without fire department clearance. The police have arrested the owner, manager, and others involved in the operation of the play zone.
