IIIT, KALAMANDALAM TO DEVELOP AI TO BRING KATHAKALI CLOSER TO THE MINDS OF ART LOVERS

  • The project is led by Nandini Warrier, an Assistant Professor at IIIT Kottayam, with significant contributions from researcher Manu Madhavan.
  • The team has completed the identification of mudras using images from Kalamandalam and is now gathering short videos to enrich the dataset.
About Kathakali dance _:

●   Kathakali is a classical Indian dance-drama form that originated in the state of Kerala during the late 17th century. It combines dance, music, and acting to depict stories from Hindu epics like the Mahabharata and Ramayana.

●   Kathakali songs are sung in a language called manipravalam, which is a combination of Malayalam and Sanskrit.

●    Kathakali song texts are referred to as Attakkatha.

●   The primary instruments utilized in Kathakali music are the chenda, maddalam, chengila, and elaththalam.
