  • The National Commission for Women (NCW) is an autonomous statutory body established in 1992 under the National Commission for Women Act, 1990.
  • Its mandate includes protecting and promoting women’s rights in India through review and addressing of relevant issues.
  • The NCW consists of a Chairperson and Members, each serving a term of three years.
  • The Central Government holds the authority to remove the Chairperson or any Member under specific circumstances.
  • Grounds for removal include adjudged insolvency, engaging in unauthorised paid employment, refusal or incapacity to act, unsound mind declaration, office abuse, or conviction involving moral turpitude.
