- After China, Peru’s International Potato Center (CIP) plans to establish a regional centre in India, focusing on potato and sweetpotato research.
- The centre aims to cater to potato-belt states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal, along with other South Asian countries.
- Negotiations between India and Peru have concluded, awaiting formal agreement and approval from the Union Cabinet.
- The Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has forwarded the proposal to the Committee on Establishment Expenditure (CEE) for clearance.
