About the Capital Funds Consolidation:

  • The Indian Air Force (IAF) assures no shortage of capital funds due to consolidation in the defence budget for 2024-25.
  • Previously, capital funds were allocated separately to the Army, Navy, and Air Force until February 2024.
  • A 10-year plan, the Integrated Capability Development Programme will be finalised by the Integrated Defence Staff (IDS) headquarters.
  • Inputs from service headquarters and the Chief of Defence Staff will contribute to the programme’s preparation.
What is Integrated Defence Staff (IDS)?

  • Coordinates and prioritises activities across Indian Armed Forces branches.
  • Comprises representatives from Army, Navy, Air Force, Ministry of External Affairs, DRDO, Ministry of Defence, and Ministry of Finance.
  • Headed by Chief of Integrated Defence Staff and Deputy Chiefs.
  • Established on December 24, 2019, by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS).
  • Advises and assists the Chief of Defence Staff, a four-star general overseeing the defence forces and Department of Military Affairs.
