About the IAF Emergency Landing Drills in Kashmir:

  • Indian Air Force (IAF) jets will conduct emergency landing drills on a strip of road in south Kashmir’s Bijbehara.
  • The drills aim to practise using highways as alternative runways during emergencies.
  • Scheduled to commence from Monday night, Sukhoi fighters and Tejas light combat aircraft will participate.
  • This marks the first such drill conducted in the Valley, utilising a 3.5 km stretch of the Srinagar-Jammu national highway in Bijbehara.
About Indian Air Force (IAF) :

●    Establishment: IAF officially founded on 8th October 1932 under the Indian Air Force Act as part of the Royal Air Force.

●    First Flight: Maiden flight on 1st April 1933, with a squadron of 4 Westland Wapiti planes led by 5 Indian pilots and a British officer.

●    World War II: Played a pivotal role in halting Japanese advances.
