  • For the 75th Republic Day Parade at Kartavya Path, more than 1500 farmers have been invited by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare;
  • These farmers benefit from a number of central government programs, including the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana;
  • The farmers will also receive training on important government programs like Per Drop More Crop, National Seeds Cooperation, and the Agri Infrastructure Fund while they are here.

What is Republic Day?

  • Independence Day is observed on August 15, 1947, the day India gained its independence and Republic Day commemorates the day India became an independent republic and obtained a written constitution;
  • The word “Republic” denotes that the President of India is an elected official;
  • Reason for adoption January 26 as Republic Day? January 26th was designated as Republic Day because it was on this day in 1930 that the Indian National Congress (INC) proclaimed Indian independence from the British rule, or Purna Swaraj. The Purna Swaraj resolution was approved in December 1929 at the INC session in Lahore and Shree Jawaharlal Nehru presided over the meeting;
  • Republic Day Celebration: Republic Day is celebrated through the main event of Republic Day Parade and the unfurling of the national flag. The following are some of the parade’s main highlights:
    • Indian Army and Paramilitary Forces contingents marching;
    • “Dare Devils” perform motorcycle stunts;
    • Vibrant tableaux representing various Indian states and union territories, as well as government departments and ministries. Folk dance troupes from different states;
    • The parade culminates in a captivating fly-past featuring multiple Indian Air Force aircraft.
    • Post-Parade Events: Presentation of the Padma and Gallantry Awards by the President and beating retreat ceremony and conclusion.
  • Theme of the 75th Republic Day 2024: Viksit Bharat’ and ‘Bharat – Loktantra ki Matruka.

PMKSY, or Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana

  • About: In 2015, PMKSY was introduced with the intention of increasing agricultural water availability, growing the area that could be farmed under guaranteed irrigation, boosting sustainable water conservation methods, and increasing water use efficiency;
  • It is a Centrally Sponsored Scheme (Core Scheme), with a 75:25 Center-States share, and the northeastern region and the hilly states will be given a 90:10 share;

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY)

  • Established in 2016, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare is in charge of its administration. Modified National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (MNAIS) and National Agricultural Insurance Scheme (NAIS) were superseded by it.
  • Eligibility: Farmers who grow notified crops in the notified areas, including tenant farmers and sharecroppers, are eligible for coverage.
  • The objectives are to stabilize farmers’ incomes so they can continue farming, as well as to offer insurance coverage and financial support in the event that any of the notified crops fail due to pests, diseases, or natural disasters.
