PM-JANMAN BENEFICIARIES EMPOWERING COMMUNITIES

Why in the News? 

  • Prime Minister initiated the first batch of  PM-JANMAN package to support Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
  • The first beneficiaries are remarkable women who act as messengers, ensuring the benefits reach even the remotest members of their communities.

About PM Janjati Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN):

  • Implemented by The Ministry of Tribal Affairs in collaboration with State governments and PVTG communities.
  • Central Sector and Centrally Sponsored Schemes with 11 critical interventions overseen by 9 Ministries.
  • Targets villages inhabited by Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) for existing scheme implementation.
  • PM JANMAN focuses on promoting sustainable livelihoods by providing skills training, resources, and securing land titles under the Forest Rights Act.
  • Encompasses sectors such as safe housing (PM-AWAS Scheme), clean drinking water, healthcare, education, nutrition, and connectivity.
  • Focus on sustainable livelihoods, Van Dhan Vikas Kendras, off-grid solar power, and solar street lights.
About PVTG

·    Establishment:

  • Dhebar Commission established Primitive Tribal Groups (PTGs).

·    PVTGs Definition:

  • Defined as tribal communities with declining population, pre-agrarian technology use, economic backwardness, and low literacy.
  • Identified as less developed among tribal communities.

o    Renaming in 2006:

  • In 2006, PTGs renamed as Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).
  • Reside in remote areas, face challenges due to poor infrastructure and administrative support.

·    Geographical Spread:

  • 75 PVTG communities in 22,544 villages across 18 States and Union Territories in India.
  • Odisha has the highest number (15), followed by Andhra Pradesh (12), Bihar, and Jharkhand (9), among others.
