  • The 27th National Youth Festival in Nashik, Maharashtra, will be opened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and he will speak to the country’s youth on National Youth Day, which commemorates the birth anniversary of youth icon Swami Vivekananda.
  • The theme for the five-day festival is “MYBharat-ViksitBharat@2047- By the Youth, For the Youth.”
  • A variety of states will present cultural events that highlight their rich cultural past. This year, there will be commemorative events promoting road safety awareness in 750 district headquarters nationwide as well as major cities.
  • The PM will launch and travel on the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri – Nhava Sheva Atal Setu in Mumbai. The six-lane bridge, which cost more than 17,840 crore rupees to build, is India’s longest sea bridge.
  • The Prime Minister will inaugurate Bharat Ratnam for Gems and Jewellery Sector at Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone- Special Economic Zone, which is the first of its kind in India and has the best available machines in the world, including 3D metal printing.
  • He will aslo introduce Namo Mahila Shashaktikaran Abhiyaan during the program. By offering training in skill development and exposure to entrepreneurship development, it seeks to empower women in Maharashtra.

About Swami Vivekananda

  • He was born as Narendranath Datta on January 12, 1863.
  • Every year, National Youth Day is observed to commemorate Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary.
  • He adopted the name “Vivekananda” in 1893 at the behest of Maharaja Ajit Singh of the Khetri State.
  • Contributions:
    • Introduced yoga and vedanta, two Indian philosophical systems, to the world.
    • He promoted “neo-Vedanta,” a Westernized version of Hinduism, and held that spirituality and material advancement could coexist.
    • He placed a strong focus on education in order to revitalize our nation.
    • Promoted education that builds character and makes men.
    • He is most well-known for his 1893 speech at the Chicago World Parliament of Religions.
    • In his books, he outlined the four paths to achieving moksha free of worldly pleasure and attachment: Raja-yoga, Karma-yoga, Jnana-yoga, and Bhaktiyoga.
    • Vivekananda was referred to as the “maker of modern India” by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.
  • Associated Organizations:
    • He founded the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897 and was the principal disciple of the mystic Ramakrishna Paramhansa of the 19th century.
    • An organization called Ramakrishna Mission focuses on women’s empowerment, youth and tribal welfare, relief, and rehabilitation, as well as value-based education, culture, and health.
    • He founded the Belur Math in 1899, and that became his permanent home.
  • Death: In 1902, he passed away at Belur Math. The Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission headquarters are in Belur Math, West Bengal.
