  • Saleh al-Arouri, the deputy leader of Hamas, was killed in a drone strike in Beirut by Israel and it was declared by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).
  • Hamas, a terrorist group, has also acknowledged that Israel killed Saleh al-Arouri, its deputy commander, in Lebanon late last night.
  • Najib Mikati, the acting prime minister of Lebanon, denounced Saleh al-Arouri’s murder.

About Saleh al-Arouri:

  • Al-Arouri, 57, a resident of Lebanon, was considered the de facto leader of Hamas’s military wing in the West Bank and worked as the terror group’s deputy director of the political bureau.
  • In March 2010, he was released from Israeli prisons as part of the negotiations to obtain a larger prisoner swap for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit, who was kidnapped by Hamas in 2006.
  • Afterwards, Arouri played a key role in arranging Shalit’s 2011 release in return for the freedom of more than a thousand Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

About Hamas

  • Formation: Hamas, short for Harakat al-Muqawama al-Islamiya, originated in the late 1980s during the First Intifada, primarily as a resistance movement against Israeli occupation.
  • Nature: It is both a militant and political organization, with its founding rooted in the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood.
  • Objective: Hamas aims for the establishment of an Islamic state in historic Palestine, rejecting the existence of Israel and advocating for the rights of Palestinians.
  • Goals and Ideology
  • Anti-Israel Stance: Ideologically opposed to Israeli presence in Palestinian territories, Hamas seeks the liberation of Palestinian lands, including East Jerusalem, which it envisions as the capital of a future Palestinian state.
  • Refugee Rights: Advocates for the rights of Palestinian refugees and their descendants, emphasizing the right of return to their ancestral homes.

About Hezbollah

●    Hezbollah, which translates to “Party of God,” is a militant Shiite Islamic group with its headquarters in Lebanon.

●    It is acknowledged as the most heavily armed non-state actor in the world, with a variety of rockets and missiles at its disposal.

●    Established in the midst of ethnic and religious strife during the Lebanese Civil War (1975–1990).

●    Motivated by the Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979, and assisted by financial resources and expertise from Iran.

●    Opposing Israel and Western influence in West Asia, as well as assisting the Syrian government during its civil war, are among the main objectives.

●    Presently active in Lebanese politics, serving in the government and holding seats in the Parliament.
