About Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY):

  • Ministry: Introduced by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, PMUY
  • Aim: to provide clean cooking fuel, LPG, to rural households using traditional fuels like firewood.
  • Objectives:
  • Empower women and improve their health by reducing the use of harmful traditional cooking fuels.
  • Decrease deaths caused by unclean cooking fuel and prevent respiratory illnesses in children due to indoor air pollution.
  • Features and Benefits:
  • Financial support of Rs 1600 for each LPG connection to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households.
  • Ujjwala 2.0 offers a deposit-free LPG connection, first refill, and a free hotplate.
  • Eligible beneficiaries receive a free LPG connection and subsidies on refills.
  • EMI facility available for stove and first refill costs.
  • Option to join the PAHAL scheme for direct subsidy transfer to bank accounts.
