Background and Termination:

  • The agreement, signed in 2019 during the Indian PM’s  visit, allowed India to conduct a hydrographic survey of Maldivian waters.
  • This marks the first bilateral pact terminated by the newly-elected Maldives government, signaling a shift in diplomatic relations.
