•    The defence of India and all of its territories falls under the purview of the Indian government.

•    The President of India is the ultimate commander of the Indian Armed Forces and the Union Cabinet is ultimately in charge of national defense.

•    This is carried out by the Ministry of Defence, which gives the Armed Forces the tools and policy framework they need to carry out their duties in the interest of national defense.

•    The Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force are the three divisions that make up the Indian Armed Forces.

The Indian Army

•    The Indian subcontinent had seen the harmonious concentration of numerous empires in their struggle for supremacy over the military and state administration.

•    Over time, the system of rights and privileges, the workplace, and service under the flag all became hubs for the adoption of societal norms.

•    After the nation was freed from British colonial rule, the Indian Army as it exists today came into being.

•    With its headquarters situated in New Delhi, the Indian Army is led by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who is in charge of all aspects of command, control, and administration.

•    The Vice-Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS) and the Army Headquarters in New Delhi oversee the six operational commands (field armies) and one training command, respectively, which are led by lieutenants generals.

Indian Navy

•    The East India Company founded a maritime force in the seventeenth century, laying the groundwork for the modern Indian Navy, which graduated in time to the Royal Indian Navy’s establishment in 1934.

•    The Chief of the Naval Staff, an Admiral, is in charge of the Indian Navy’s Headquarters, which is situated in New Delhi.

•    There are three area commands that oversee the Indian navy, and each one is led by a flag officer.

•    The Eastern Naval Command is located in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on the Bay of Bengal; the Southern Naval Command is located in Kochi (Cochin), in Kerala, also on the Arabian Sea; and the Western Naval Command is headquartered in Bombay, on the Arabian Sea.

Indian Air Force

•    On October 8, 1932, the Indian Air Force was formally founded. Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee, a founding member of the Air Force, assumed command as the first Indian Chief of Air Staff on April 1, 1954.

•    Over the years, the Indian Air Force upgraded its fleet of aircraft and equipment significantly, bringing in over twenty new types of aircraft in the process.

•    The entry of women into the Indian Air Force for short service commissions during the final ten years of the 20th century resulted in a dramatic transformation of the Air Force’s organizational structure.

•   Additionally, the Air Force conducted some of its riskiest operations during this time.
