India’s Fisheries Sector 

·  India is the 3rd largest fish producing and 2nd largest aquaculture nation in the world after China.

·  The Blue Revolution in India demonstrated importance of Fisheries and Aquaculture sector.

·  Fisheries Sector is considered as a sunrise sector.

·  Marine fisheries- 30 % (nearly)

·  Inland Fisheries – 70 % (nearly)

·  The Indian government sanctioned the flagship scheme, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY), in May 2020 as part of the Aatmanirbhar initiative to promote fishery sector.

Gujarat’s Contribution:

  • Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel highlighted Gujarat’s significance, holding the highest coastline in India.
  • Gujarat contributes 17 percent to the country’s fisheries exports.
  • Coastal sector’s pivotal role in realizing PM’s vision of a self-reliant India emphasized during Amrit Kal.

World Fisheries Awards:

  • Awards recognizing outstanding contributions in the fisheries sector were distributed.
  • Inland Reservoir Leasing portal launched by CM Bhupendra Patel.
  • Declaration of Dhol fish as the State fish of Gujarat.

The conference marks a significant platform for addressing challenges and paving the way for sustainable growth in India’s fisheries sector.
