  • It is organized by the sport’s governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), every four years.

History

  • The first World Cup was organised in England in June 1975, with the first ODI cricket match having been played only four years earlier.
  • The West Indies won the inaugural tournament, defeating Australia in the final.
  • Since then, the tournament has been held every four years, with the exception of 1979, when it was not held due to logistical difficulties.
