PM Modi to inaugurate 141st IOC Session in Mumbai 

News: The 141st International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session will begin on Saturday in Mumbai, under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The International Olympic Committee session is an important gathering for its members.

 

  • After a 40-year break, India is hosting the IOC session for the second time. The 86th session of the IOC was last convened in 1983 in New Delhi.

Competition Commission of India organizes 8th BRICS International Competition Conference in New Delhi. 

News: Today marked the start of the eighth BRICS International Competition Conference in New Delhi. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) is hosting a two-day conference with the title “New Issues in Competition Law and Policy: Dimensions, Perspectives, and Challenges.”

India’s 111th rank in Global Hunger Index  

News: The Indian government has responded to concerns about the country’s 111th rank in the Global Hunger Index (GHI) by highlighting potential erroneous indices and methodological issues in the assessment.

  • While the GHI serves as an essential tool to measure and address global hunger, the government has raised questions about the adequacy of the data sources and the accuracy of the rankings.
  • They argue that the GHI might not fully capture India’s multifaceted efforts to combat hunger, such as various nutrition programs and policies aimed at improving food security.
  • Moreover, methodological issues, like the choice of indicators and data sources, may not provide a comprehensive picture of the situation on the ground.

  • The Global Hunger Index is published by Concern Worldwide and Welthungerhilfe and assesses hunger levels based on four parameters: undernourishment, child wasting, child stunting, and child mortality. India’s ranking reflects ongoing challenges in addressing food security and malnutrition.
